Transponders
Transponders are a common feature on modern vehicles to guard against theft of cars. These tiny devices, that are connected to the key fob include a chip and can communicate with the car once it is within range. These chips employ a unique code to identify the key and inform it what vehicle it is associated with.
The chip emits signals that are detected by two coils positioned around the ignition barrel inside the vehicle. The coils are activated by the key and send a pulse electromagnetic energy to the chip. The chip responds by sending a unique identification code to the car. The unique code can be used to unlock doors and open the car.
In World War 2, a similar technology was employed to help air traffic control detect military aircrafts using radar. This kind of chip code is still in use in the aviation industry.
These systems were believed to be clone proof up until recently. This was due to the fact that there were only 74 Quadrillion (74,000,000,000,000,000) possible codes for each transponder. replacement renault key behind these chips was enhanced and they are no longer duplicate-proof. Immobilisers
Renaults are a bit complicated in regards to key systems and immobilisers. There are two main mechanisms that affect how the new key is programmed into the car. The older system employs a “kill switch” that connects to one of the essential car’s starter parts to turn it off if the right key is not present. These are very delicate and require a trained technician to correctly diagnose and rectify if they fail.
The newer system is much simpler to use. It employs advanced encryption and rolling security codes to prevent copying the code from the ECU or key. This is the code that will be used to replace keys that we supply.
Certain models come with an earpiece antenna that is specific to the vehicle and is not detected by transponder scanners that are standard. This is very effective at keeping hotwiring off and is extremely difficult to bypass using a standard key or an emulator for transponders. We have a product called the Renault Antenna Emulator that we can use in order to bypass this immobiliser on Renault Clio phase 2 models as well as some Renault commercial vehicles with ID46 Transponders. It replicates the operation of a key transponder that is valid within the ring antenna. It can be used to replace lost or failed keys without disassembling the ECU. It has been tested and approved by Thatcham to give security to motor insurance customers.
