The origins of the card

In 2001, the Laguna II, an executive saloon that was designed to be a ‘lifestyle vehicle”, was launched into production. It was a time of a lot of innovation with an array of new features attributes that helped customers enjoy their vehicle to the fullest.

The technology

In the years following, the card was hailed as a groundbreaking invention, and it is now available in two out of three Renault vehicles. Renault has decided to make use of the latest features of smartphones to enhance the hands-free card although it appears they are about to replace it.
The keyless entry system
The hands-free card from Renault was a ground-breaking piece of technology when it was first introduced 20 years ago. The exterior design is the same, but the technology has been improved to make it more user-friendly and less vulnerable to hacking.
It can’t be used from outside to open doors or start the car until the driver turns it on. This is because radio antennae “around the car” are set up to determine whether the key is inside or outside. The key can still function from a distance to turn on the ignition of your car, but it won’t be able to unlock the doors, which is for your security.
The wireless remote control transmissions used by the system use the rolling-code. This reduces the risk of someone intercepting the control message and then transmitting it to gain access, but does not eliminate it. [1]
